Cultural Studies

What is Cultural Studies?

Cultural Studies in Montessori introduce children to the world around them, including geography, science, history, and culture. Children explore how people live, how the earth works, and their place within it.

Why do we study culture?

Cultural Studies help children develop curiosity, respect, and understanding of the world. By learning about different people, places, and natural systems, children build empathy and a sense of global awareness.

What materials do we use?

Children work with maps, globes, puzzle maps, science materials, classified cards, and real-life objects. These materials allow children to explore concepts in a hands-on and meaningful way.

Geography

Children learn about continents, countries, landforms, and bodies of water. Through maps and globes, they begin to understand where they are in the world and how different places are connected.

People & Traditions

Children are introduced to different cultures, traditions, foods, clothing, and celebrations from around the world. This helps foster respect, appreciation, and a sense of connection to others.

Science

Children are introduced to foundational science concepts through hands-on exploration and discovery. Topics may include the solar system, simple machines, physical properties, and basic chemistry and physics concepts. Using materials like experiments, sorting activities, and classification work, children begin to understand how the world works and develop curiosity, observation skills, and critical thinking.
